Royal
Caribbean's Kids Program is superb. Their Kids/ Tweens/Teens Program
offers young people ages 5 to 17 a variety of onboard activities separate from
the scheduled activities as well as a special menu for the younger ones.
Facilities include a teen disco and a children's playroom to provide a cruise
experience not to be forgotten.
Royal Caribbean has been acknowledged as one of the leaders in children's
facilities at sea and activities for kids," said Rod McLeod, Royal
Caribbean's executive vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services.
"Our ships are designed to entertain our young guests and help
reinforce the tradition of family vacations."
Royal Caribbean has divided its children's program into three basic age groups
-- kids (ages 5 to 8), "tweens" (ages 9 to 12) and teens (ages 13 to
17) -- which enables the company to provide its younger passengers with an
activity schedule that suits each age group.
The excitement begins soon after departure when Royal Caribbean invites all
parents and youngsters to a brief orientation meeting with the ship's
professionally trained and experienced youth staff. Kids receive their
very own "Cruise Compass" activity schedule highlighting each day's
adventures. From morning to night, kids are entertained and pampered.
The youth staff, both male and
female, are professionally certified in education, recreation and/or preschool,
or have qualified experience in working with children ages 3-17. In
addition, over 50% of our youth staff are certified to work with preschoolers
and certified in CPR and first aid. There are video arcades (there is a
nominal fee for tokens) and children’s movies are shown on cabin televisions
throughout the day and night.
Young cruisers can show off their creative talent by designing their own
costumes to wear at the Kids/Tweens/Teens Masquerade Parade, and budding young
superstars can sign up for the Talent Show. For junior joggers and fitness
fanatics, there are ShipShape tournaments, golf putting, basketball, Ping-Pong
and triathlon team competitions where young athletes have a chance to "go
for the gold." The onboard children's facilities are every bit as
exciting as the ports of call. They have special children's rooms and teen
centers. Children receive “Adventure Ocean” dollars for program
participation, which are redeemable after collecting a certain number for gifts
and prizes. They receive medals for 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd place for sports
tournaments.
Hours for these facilities are
as follows (no charge):
AT SEA 9:30am - 11:30am
2:00pm - 5:00pm
7:00pm - 10:00pm
AT
PORT 9:30am - 11:30am

KIDS MENU
For youth who prefer hamburgers over filet mignon, Royal Caribbean has a special
dinner menu on all its ships. The 8-page menu, "Captain Sealy's Kids
Galley," features favorites such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,
hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches and macaroni and cheese.
Trendy foods, such as salads, fruit, homemade alphabet soup, personal pan
pizzas, popcorn shrimp, pasta dishes and chicken nuggets, are also available.
The special dinner menu is designed for children ages 4 to 12, and features a
variety of children's games such as connect-the-dots, word searches as well as
pictures to color. Children are also given a small pack of crayons.
